Hitchhiking on Isle of Skye to Portree on a Saturday - is it possible?

So I'm travelling alone between Mallaig and Kyle (to do the West Highland and Kyle of Lochalsh lines which are very scenic), and I need to stopover on Skye using the Armadale ferry, as the Fort William-Portree bus is pretty pricey (£36.60 the last time I checked). Unfortunately a bus isn't available from Armadale to Portree or Kyle of Lochalsh, being a weekend. I need to get to Kyle of Lochalsh by 14.00 the next day (to catch the Inverness train), and I intend to use Portree as a stopover for the night. How difficult would it be to hitchhike, consider I arrive at Armadale in the evening?

Also, with regards to dormitories with multiple beds, are there anything I should buy special attention to? It's my first time staying in a hostel's dormitory.
