First Solo
Hey everyone, I'm new to reddit, but I am probably going to be going on my first solo travel abroad in Spring 2018. I am an African American college student and I have been abroad before in a wide array of travel partners but I haven't gone anywhere alone yet. I'm uncertain of where I should go because my original plan was to go with my best friend to Rome, but she cannot come anymore, but I still want to go somewhere abroad. my top locations are all in Europe, primarily Italy, but since I don't speak much Italian I am worried. For reference I have a lot of sever food allergies, so knowledge of the language is rather important because I'd need to eat while abroad and don't feel like taking a day trip to some foreign hospital. I am near-fluent in German and have been to Berlin & Pairs already. I'm thinking the UK or somewhere in the Netherlands as a better "test-drive" since English is my first language and the Dutch are known for their excellent English. I do have a conversational knowledge of Spanish as well and can pick up some dialects of Italian. I'm on the fence as to where I should go or if I should cast out a net in my university's common facebook page for a near-stranger that I could get to know to some extent in the next few months, or if I should bite the bullet and go for my first solo travel. Any advice on what I should do?
