21 F, first time solo traveling in the UK? And how do I handle my parents’ reaction?
So, this isn’t a months-long trip... I’m thinking 2ish weeks after my college graduation this spring, and I want to focus on history/art. I’ve been studying full time, nonstop since high school - and I am in great need of a break.
I chose the UK specifically because: I want to see it, they speak English, and cheap tickets can easily be found from our city.
Anything I should know about traveling solo? Tips and tricks? Am I going for too short of a trip? Is the UK ideal for new solo travelers? Safety concerns? Areas of London to avoid? Though I’m well-travelled, I don’t have much planning experience.
And how do I maturely explain this to my parents, who I currently live with, in a way that doesn’t sound crazy or disrespectful? I mean, is it crazy to plan this? Because everyone else seems to think so. Though I have been preparing to move out soon after my graduation, I am their only daughter and they will perpetually hover and panic. I understand it. But I need to do my own thing or I’ll regret it years later.
