Self-driving in Myanmar, a good idea?

Hi fellow travellers! I'm planning to visit Myanmar for 6 days in Dec and will be renting a car (without driver) to get around the country. The route would be Yangon > Bagan > Mandalay > Yangon. I understand it is a bit tight but I do enjoy driving in a foreign country a lot so I'd really try to make this happen.

Question is though: 1) Is it generally safe to drive in Myanmar for foreigners? I have few years of driving experience in Asian cities like Hong Kong, Thailand, etc 2) Where would be a nice stopping point between Yangon and Bagan (a 9 hour drive)?

Any other recommendations in general would be greatly welcomed!
