What happens if I miss my connection and it's the last flight of the day?

I'm looking at a flight with a rather right connection to the last flight of the day. It's all on one ticket and with the same airline, so I expect to be put on the next flight if I don't make it. However the next flight is the next day, ~11 hours later. Is the airline then required to put me up in a hotel for the night?

(The airline is KLM, airport AMS, and the trip Schengen-to-Schengen)
