US winter travel suggestions?
Looking for some US Winter travel destination suggestions for my girlfriend and myself around Christmas this year. Been having a hard time making a decision.
Some info:
We're looking for somewhere mildly warm - pretty much just looking to avoid snow.
Ideally it would be within driving distance of eastern iowa - 16 hours is the most we would want to drive.
We love outdoor adventures - hiking, mountain biking, rafting etc. We have been visiting a lot of national parks recently and have absolutely loved every one of them, so that would be a huge plus.
We equally enjoy exploring a new city, especially trying new food. Pretty much open to trying anything and everything so a good food scenes is a huge plus as well.
"Relaxing" is not our idea of a vacation. An afternoon on the beach is nice but any more than that and we get bored. We want to stay active as much as possible.
Other than that we're pretty open to just about anything other than places we've already been recently. So places we would want to avoid where we have already been this year are:
NYC, Philadelphia area, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Las Vegas, Washington, Oregon, Twin Cities area, Nashville, Charleston SC.
