Travelling Sydney - London via Qatar, opinions / advice

Hey guys,

I'm moving from Australia to France for the ski season in December and am just in the process of booking my flights.

The plan is to fly from Sydney to London via Doha (Qatar Air). This is a 24h trip and after doing some research, I have found that for the same price I can have a 3 day stop over in Doha.

I definitely want to go to London prior to flying to France to see a Football (soccer) match and have a tour of Scotland already booked.

Also, there isn't any real reason I can't do the stop over on the way home to Sydney after the season either so that could be an option if I decide to go straight through.

Pros / Cons - Straight to London
Pro - Buy 24h internet on the plane and kill time playing games.
Pro - Smash the flight out in 1 go and not have to re-hype myself for an extra 8h in a few days
Pro - Fly to Europe and swap for pounds rather than Riyal then Pounds etc
Pro - Get to visit family I haven't seen in 10 years (this can happen after France too but I wouldn't have time if I stop off)
Con - Don't get to see another country. Might be the only time I get to see middle eastern culture
Con - Stuck in a plane for 24+ hours straight
Con - Have a week in London before other activities (I have been to London before and while I like it, might be a bit long without anything planned)

Pros / Cons - 3 day stop over in Doha
Pro - Get to visit a new country / city
Pro - Split the flight into 2 parts making it much more managable
Pro - Likely to be cheaper than staying in London
Con - Internet on the plane gets less usage (or costs more money)
Con - Hot (I don't exactly love hot weather, hence the back to back winters)
Con - To and from airports, booking different hotels / hostels, carrying luggage etc.

Also, has anyone been to Doha before and have any recommendations on what to see or do? I'm more of a sporty guy who likes being hands on and active, more so than art or shopping kind of person. I like a drink but generally don't want to drink by myself (so would try to make friends in a hostel)
