Thinking of road-tripping/"SUV-dwelling" from S.E. USA to PNW. Questions.

Background: Recently left a career that I was growing increasingly unhappy with. Currently unemployed but I am debt free, living back at home, and have savings. This may be the last time or at least for a good while that I'm able to do something like this.

I have literally nothing holding me down except fear of getting stranded & fear of not making ends meet on the road (really don't want to rely solely on my savings). There is no time limit for this trip. I have a 2006 Ford Escape SUV that I'm planning on converting to a camper, getting a gym membership, a Coleman stove, and just living out of my SUV, and pitching a tent wherever, for idk how long. Really no plan except head out west.

I've never done a road trip before. Longest I've ever driven in one day was 6 hours. Any suggestions for me on how to make money? I was thinking Craigslist, odd jobs, working at pizza joints, save money in one area, then keep moving.

Vehicle maintenance I should do before I head out? I'm really not a car guy unfortunately and I don't know shit about cars. Sad to say...

Any encouragement or advice/whatever would be appreciated too. I did a mini crash-test the other day & drove to my hometown & hung out there for the day which was a 5 hour drive total (to and from) and felt like I could've kept driving if I had another destination. I'm pretty nervous about the thought of doing this but it's either. A. Find a new job & go back to my old way of living or B. Buck the hell up & do something that I've always dreamed about doing.
