Seattle -> Northern California (Six Rivers NF) in October
Hey there! I'm looking for advice on an upcoming roadtrip, any tips are appreciated!
I'm going to be making my way from Seattle to the Six Rivers National Forest during the 2nd week of October, solo, in a 2wd minivan that I sleep in. I've got 4-7 days to do it.
Looks like it's an extra ~4 hours to take the 101 instead of the 5, and another ~5 hours to add Olympic NP. I'm open to going a little out of the way, I've never been to Oregon, I'd love to see some of the Oregon Coast, but it's going to be at the end of a 4,000 mile journey from Alaska, so I don't really want to add more than 4 extra hours.
Looking for advice on the route- what part of the Oregon Coast is your favorite? Should I take 101 the whole way down, or do some of it on the 5? I'm much more into free outdoorsy stuff / hikes / camping than spendy city stuff. I'm okay with not going to Portland.
I'd love to hear any tips you have- where to stop for camping, hikes, sunsets, food, gas etc. Also if you know of anywhere to get a shower (truck stops/ public pools), that'd be awesome.
Thanks for reading! I appreciate your advice & time.
