Need some travel advice for Belize / Guatemala / Yucatan!
Hi, travel friends!
I and a few friends are planning to go to Belize in late November (Thanksgiving break here in the US) for a 9-day trip.
We already booked a one-way flight from California to Belize City. We plan to spend the first 5-6 days diving (were all fairly new to diving but want to do 2 or 3 this trip), exploring caves, Mayan ruins, and bio-reserves.
The question I had for you guys is what we should do in the last few days of the trip and more importantly where should we fly back from.
We would be spending a lot of time diving and on the beach in Belize, so ideally the last few days can be a little different. We also want to make sure we do not spend a lot of the time driving around during the day.
A couple options we thought about:

Fly back from Merida. We can drive up to Yucatan after a few days. Things that sound exciting here are exploring cenotes and Chichen Itza. Merida itself seems like a cool city. But this might be quite similar to the things we see around Belize. We don't know if there's a lot of new stuff here.

Fly back from Guatemala City: This would be great because we get to hike in the mountains around Guatemala. But the drive to Guatemala City is really long and we rather not waste a whole day. We might be able to do an overnight bus or something.

Fly back from Belize city. In this case, we would end up driving too far from the city, but we can probably drive up to the Mexican border to check out some parks. This would be great if there are enough semi-strenuous hikes we can do within a few hours drive from Belize City (I would describe a semi-strenuous hike as 10mile round trip with 2500 ft elevation gain). This way we can intersperse the activities throughout the 10 days as well.
