Is February - July a good time to backpack in South America? With regards seasons
Hey guys!
I would love to know what you think of my plans for South America. I'm thinking :
-
1) Start in Brazil. Fly from the UK to Rio early February. From there I'm not going to drift too far from the State of Rio. I dont want to head to the jungle, and apparently there's loads to do around this area - and also head to some islands. I'd quite like to get away from the main busy areas of Rio when the carnival hits - as I've heard it can be pretty dangerous and expensive.
-
2) In March goto Argentina. I've heard that the further south you go the more the weather differs depending on the season. So I wanted to do Argentina & Chile after Brazil, while I'm in these earlier months - before Winter.
-
3) In April, Chile. I have a friend of a friend in Santiago, and I'd do mostly southern Chile.
-
4) Then in May head up to Peru.
-
5) June, Ecuador
-
6) July, Colombia.
Do you see any problems with this regarding seasons? Originally I was going to start in Brazil and go counterclockwise :
- Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina
But I thought if I did that when I'm heading to Brazil in February, I'd be hitting Argentina/Chile in June & July - which is the start of the colder months.
So instead, go clockwise :
- Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia
Sorry for the long post!
But yeah - if you could suggest a different time to go to certain places that would be great. I could head to Brazil in January instead maybe, and start then.
Thanks!
