Hurricane Irma wrecked St. Martin and, with it, our December vacation plans. Where should we go instead?

My wife and i love the island of St. Martin and have been several times. We keep returning because we love its mix of Dutch and French cultures, its wonderful restaurants, beautiful beaches and modern amenities. We know you can party hard on the island but that's not really our style anymore. It's St Martin's quiet cool and chill attitude that keeps bringing us back.

We were set to go in early December but Irma has made that an impossibility. Looking for recommendations on an alternative that would make a good substitute while the island gets back on its feet. We're from NYC and, ideally, it wouldn't be more than a six hour flight to get wherever we decide to go.
