From Canada, seeking advice for visas and buying a one-way ticket to the UK for 4 months.
So here's the cliche girl-meets-boy-while-traveling-abroad story:
I met this lovely Spanish fellow this summer while volunteering in Iceland. We've decided we like each other enough we'd like to see where things go. He is doing a semester in the UK for 4 months and I'd like to meet him there and live with him and work during that time period. Depending on how things go, I'd go to live with him in Spain afterwards while he finishes his schooling.
So first question:

I am not sure which visa option to go with given my situation. I've done the questionnaire on the UK immigration website, but I'm still unsure. Since I'll be there for less than 4 months I don't want to spend the money for a 2-year working holiday visa. I know I can come without a visa for less than three months if I have a sponsor from a company. I'm just not sure I'll be able to get a company to sponsor me and fill out the paperwork within the next few weeks. I am anxious to get to the UK as soon as possible and I feel it would be easier to find work once I'm over there. Can someone help me with the route I should take here?

Given the uncertainty of what will happen between this Spaniard and myself, I'd like to buy a one-way ticket, in case I go to Spain after our UK stay. But because I don't have a visa, I'm sure I'll be hassled at customs. Does anyone have any advice to go about this?
