europe insanity trip 2018 - need advice and opinions
Hey guys! I've just started planning a trip around europe for the summer of 2018. I'm Portuguese and therefore my focus will be more on eastern europe (with a few extra stops for the sake of my little sister's travelling education). Rome, Milan and Brussels have been discarded because of been-there-a-few-time-ness. Greece has been discarded because it's far and I honestly think it should be a trip in itself.
So far the itinerary I have is:
Italy: Naples - Florence - Venice
Slovenia: Ljubljana
Croatia: Zagreb or Dubvrovnik (idk which yet, and comments are appreciated on how amazing both are since next we're going to Montenegro to Kotor and it's really close to Dubrovnik so we might make a stop there)
Bosnia and Herzegovina: Sarajevo OR Mostar (suggestions and comments are appreciated)
Montenegro: Kotor
Bulgaria: Sofia
Romania: Bucharest - Brasov (Transylvania can I hear a hell yeah)
Hungary: Budapest
Slovakia: Bratislava
Austria: Vienna
Czechia: Prague
Poland: Krakow
Germany: Berlin
Netherlands: Amsterdam
I know this sounds a little insane and yes I am (painfully) aware that we won't be able to spend a lot of time in each city. We're planning on taking as many night trains as we possibly can, though, so there's that. Now for the questions:
-
Considering the itinerary, do you think it is worth buying an interrail pass? I've read in a lot of places that, especially in eastern europe, it's not worth the extra money because the train fares end up being cheaper than if you purchased a pass. How was your experience in regards to this matter? My husband and a friend are joining us from Slovenia to Krakow as well so I was wondering about them too.
-
Hostel/train booking in advance: worth it or do we just wing most of it two/three days before? Also night trains, how tf do they work? Are there bed wagons? Are they comfy enough to sleep in?
-
If you had to say one spectacular place that you think we're missing in this area, which would that be? And if you had to say one that we have that you thought was meh, which would it be and why?
Overall just tell me what you think and, from your experience, what we could improve on. We do have one year to figure this out (I do get overexcited with planning so yes, here I am, one year early, hyping and typing about it like a crazy person).
