Can a USA citizen travel to Canada without a passport?
Hello!
Okay, so to sum up. My girlfriend wants to visit me in Canada but currently doesn't have a passport.
She does not want to get a passport untill she changes her name to be the legal girl name she wants.
We did some research into it, and it seems a USA citizen can visit Canada for up to 90 days just by showing their ID, which is great. But then I did a little more digging and it seems to get back to the USA she would need a passport as there is some law that allows you entry without a passport but to leave.
So my question is, was I just miss understanding the flight/border rules, and they would let her back in, or does she actually need to wait for a passport.
(Situation is complicated. She might not be able to change her name and get a passport for a few months at least. I'm set to visit her in February... But stuff isn't great right now due to the distance so I want to try to get her out here for a bit sooner.)
Anyway, any and all help would be great. Thank you.
