Any suggestions for a day trip from Edinburgh?
I'm going to Scotland with my grandparents on a guided tour in a week. We're already seeing Glasgow, Skye, Skara Brae, Loch Ness, St. Andrews and ending in Edinburgh. We will have 4 days in Edinburgh and I'm thinking of doing a day trip from Edinburgh with them. Budget is not an issue, and we will be using public transport to get around. With that in mind:
What do you recommend that we see? My grandparents particularly like historical sites. I've read about:
-
Rosslyn Chapel
-
Stirling (to see the castle and Bannockburn site)
-
Inchcolm Abbey
-
This tour to Alnwick Castle and Lindisfarne Abbey/Holy Island
Are all of the above equally worth considering? Are any of them totally avoidable tourist traps? Am I missing something big that should be seen? If so, we would rather not travel more than 1.5 hours one way using public transport. Thank you for your advice!
