A little Aussie travelling to the Faroe Islands this winter!
Hey Reddit! This coming winter Jan 1st – Jan 5th I will be visiting the Faroe Islands and am just looking for some advice regarding getting around and some sightseeing. Having travelled extensively throughout the Nordics and just this last year visiting Greenland and Svalbard I am fully aware of the remoteness associated with this location and that it will be the off season. I am however really excited to see the islands in all their beauty!
I have read up extensively about what to expect with the weather, the fact that most tour operators shut down over this period and have perused r/Faroeislands for information however am still curious about some specifics. I’ll be staying in the heart of Torshavn and will be renting a car for the period however just wanted to ask if anyone had any advice on what the driving conditions will be like at this time of year? In addition to this, I understand that the hiking conditions are not ideal- how likely is it that I will be able to reach Sorvagsvatn and Mulafossur Waterfall? And if so, are there any locals I may be able to get in contact with in order to organise a tour for safety? If these locations are too dangerous to reach, does anyone have any alternate suggestions for activities or places to see?
