West Coast road trip
Hello! I'm planning a road trip for this autumn (starting late October). I've never been to the US, so it's a bit of a gamble, but I'm trying to use google maps etc to work out if this is feasible. Still, it would be great to have an opinion. We'll have about 4.5 weeks; do you think it's possible to do this route comfortably? I don't mind moving on regularly, I like doing that in fact, but I don't want to be sat in a car for too long each day, and definitely want to have some days where we aren't driving and several days in the big cities (excluding Vegas, just one night there).
Seattle
Olympic National Park
North Oregon coast
Portland
Columbia River Gorge
Crater Lake
Redwood National Park
Mendocino
Wine Country
San Francisco
Yosemite
Monterey/Big Sur
Santa Barbara
Los Angeles
Sedona
Grand Canyon
Las Vegas
What do you think?
And is there anywhere else on route that you recommend we check out? My main priority is to see a range of the amazing landscapes on offer and to stay in some cool, lively neighbourhoods. If you want to recommend a specific town to stay in for some of the areas (eg in the Oregon portion, Wine Country, Big Sur, the long drive from CA to AZ) that would be great. Is there anywhere that might be a bit "samey" and we could skip/substitute for something else? Maybe some of these places won't be good for that time of year?
We'd also like to keep the trip as cheap as reasonably possible, so if anyone has any suggestions to help with that, great.
