Los Angeles and beyond: 1 week trip help
Hello. We will be spending 3 days in L.A. and then would like to make time for both the Joshua Tree NP and the PCH towards San Luis Obispo in early September. I had originally planned 2 days at Joshua Tree but scrapped one in order to have extra time on the PCH. Now I'm wondering if even one day in the desert is worth it, given the 2.5 hour drive there and back. Should I have an extra day in LA instead?
Here is a rough itinerary. Suggestions welcome.
Day 1 - Arrive at LAX in the morning. Check in to accommodations close to Mariachi Plaza. Explore Arts District/Little Tokyo/Downtown. Museums and central market. Visit Chinatown. (I've heard the best Chinese food is in San Gabriel, but what's worth eating here?) Visit Koreatown for more food and spas. In the evening, find a good spot for drinks + sunset.
Day 2 - Venice Beach/Abbot Kinney
Day 3 - Hollywood/Griffith Observatory
We will attempt to accomplish these first three days via public transit, walking, and uber as a last resort. I would rather not participate in traffic and parking fees. Pros, cons and tips highly welcome.
Day 4 - Joshua Tree or extra day in LA
Day 5 - 7 - PCH towards SLO. Trying to stop almost everywhere along the way. Return to LA night before flight.
