Japan day-hike recommendations for Nov/Dec?
Hi /r/travel,
My wife and I (New Zealanders) will be travelling to Japan from early November to late December and I'm looking for recommendations on good half-day to full-day hikes to do. We like something with a bit of elevation that will get our blood pumping and reward us with a great view, but also welcome suggestions of easier but picturesque trails.
I realise it's not an appropriate time of year to try to tackle Mt Fuji, and it seems that a lot of the hikes in the Hokkaido area might also be out at that time of year. We can put up with the cold, we just want a trail that is open and not too dangerous for non-professionals like us.
FYI, so far, I've looked at the "Hiking in Japan" section of japan-guide.com, had a brief look at japanhike.wordpress.com (which looks like an awesome resource once I've started to narrow things down), and also done a general google, but would really like to hear from any first hand accounts of appropriate hikes from you folk.
Will also be cross-posting to /r/japantravel
TYIA!
