My wife and I are driving from Naples (Positano, technically) to Taormina in two weeks. I was just wondering what, if anything, along the way we should stop at, divert to, or sleep over in. We plan to possibly stop to spend the night somewhere 2/3 of the way there, maybe Tropea or something? I'm not very familiar with the area between naples and sicily, any tips appreciated!

To forestall the incipient: Yes, I have driven in italy before, many times, I am competent and safe and I very much enjoy driving there. We are not considering any non-driving options as we are roadtrippers at heart.
