Clothing recommendations for solo female in Greece in September?
Title says it all. I (23F) will be spending a few days in Belgium and then three full weeks in Greece in September. I will be bringing minimal luggage, pretty much just a 25 L backpack and possibly my camera bag and/or a small purse.
I'll be aiming for mostly couchsurfing and I'm not the type for fancy gear, just trying to adapt my regular wardrobe to the climate.
General concerns:
What's appropriate? Do I need coverage for visiting religious sites? Will uncovered legs/shoulders invite any elicit stares from strangers? I'm also not too much of a beach bum but I'm assuming a bikini is okay?
I've read it'll be warm but not stifling hot? How about humidity? Worth packing a sports bra for crazy hot days? Sun is an issue, I'm pale and sensitive. Better off with coverage and light fabric than shorts/tanks?
I've got Birkenstocks that are comfortable for walking and match most outfits. How about outdoorsy activities? Worth bringing hiking boots (a bit heavy) or lighter sneakers will do?
Cosmetics: I'll bring enough to get me started, but what's the situation I'm Greece? Normal drug stores? I've had mixed experiences in other places.
I know a lot of this is personal preference but just curious what others, particularly lady travelers, have to say about it. What worked for you, what did you regret toting around?
