Changing flights last minute, worth trying to fly standby?
Long story short, I'm flying MSP to JFK next Friday and my destination plans have changed so that my flight now gets in too late and I need to find an earlier flight. The change fees + price difference of the tickets amount to more than I paid for the original flight :/
My airline (sun country) isn't budging on price but they did mention that I could try standby for the 7:00 am early flight. If I get on, it would only be the $50 change fee. They said it's nearly sold out but also said that people miss flights all the time, esp early morning flights. Have any of you taken this gamble before? Any advice on how not to burn a hole in my wallet if the standby is too risky??
