Trip Suggestions: LA to Mesa Verde NP (Jan)
Hi everyone,
Two friends, one 5mon puppy, and I have roughly ~7 days to explore the southwest in January. We’re leaving at night from Los Angeles and our current itinerary is as follows:
Day 1: LA > Flagstaff Purely just driving
Day 2: Flagstaff > Vermillion Cliffs NM > Monument Valley I’ve done the drive from South to North rim and am excited to travel on 89a again. We’re into collecting cancellation stamps so we won’t be spending too much time at Vermillion Cliffs.
Day 3: Monument Valley > Four Corners > Mesa Verde National Park. Stopping at Four Corners just for the photo op. Aware that dogs are not allowed at MV NP.
Day 4: Mesa Verde National Park > Coral Sand Dunes State Park Is there a more scenic route than the fastest one suggested?
Day 5: Coral Sand Dunes > Cathedral Gorge
Day 6: Cathedral Gorge > Valley of Fire State Park > Vegas Hoping to do Meow Wolf and maybe a buffet.
Day 7: Vegas > LA Stopping by Seven Magic Mountains.
Main question: We’re really into scenic drives and roadside attractions. Should we spend more time in the Mesa Verde area? Unsure about weather conditions and, of course, time.
I’ve done road trips like this in the past, but this will be the first time driving in snow and first time traveling with pup.
