Ohio to California - suggestions for quick stops along the way?
We will be driving from Cleveland, OH --> Mammoth Cave, KY --> Memphis, TN --> Oklahoma City, OK --> Albuquerque, NM --> Flagstaff, AZ --> Los Angeles, CA in a couple of weeks. Except for the first leg, we'll be on I-40 pretty much the whole way. We don't want to do too many stops because it's already taking a ton of time and we have 6-7 hours to drive most days, sometimes more. On the other hand, we do want to build in some breaks to stretch our legs and see some local color along the way, and hopefully get some decent food.
We're tentatively planning to stop for a hike in the Ozarks and brief visits to the Blue Hole, the Cadillac Ranch, the Continental Divide (even though I've warned my companion that there's not much to see there), and the Meteor Crater. Does anyone have any suggestions for other stops that aren't too far off the main route but are worth seeing? Or recommendations for food along the way?
