Road Trip Advice: Planning and Preparation
Hello! I’m new to this Sub-Reddit and am looking for any advice you guys have for preparation and planning a road trip.
My wife and I are looking at taking a 2-3 week trip next summer just driving through different states and major cities/niche locations that we can dig up! We’ll be going through roughly 20 states including getting back to our own and need to begin planning an itinerary, budget, and performing hotel/campsite searches (we’re thinking half time in a hotel, half time at a campsite).
Neither of us have experience organising a trip this large. We usually just take weekend trips that are fairly impromptu and come back almost broke — something that is fun, but we want to avoid the broke part this time.
Are there any good apps out there not locked behind a paywall or other itinerary planning strategies you guys have? Hotel discounts or any advice for getting lower rates in not-sketchy areas of cities/towns? Budget creation tips or software/apps that you use for road tripping? Anything is helpful!
Thank you all in advance!
