Minneapolis to San Francisco in the middle of November. Snow? Do I need tire chains?
Hey there, I've been on a road trip away from home (SF Bay Area) since May. I'm getting ready to head back the first or second week of November and will be departing from Minneapolis. I've never lived anywhere with snow, and in turn have never needed to drive in snow.
The route I'm taking will run me on 90 through South Dakota, wiggle down to 80 in Wyoming, and then 80 through Utah and Nevada all the way back home in California. I have an AWD car with year round tires.
So my questions are with the direct route between Minneapolis and SF and being early November, what's the likelihood that I will encounter enough snow where I'll need to "drive differently" or need to have on tire chains? Drive differently is in quotes because again I've never actually driven through snow (or anything icy for that matter) and honestly don't know what to expect.
Thanks!
Edit, here's a map of the route.
