I’ve done the drive a few times with my family, but never on my own. Looking for cool little stops along the way. We’re gonna stay a night in McKinleyville, CA, and another in the Bay Area before reaching San Diego. Definitely taking 101 down. Not sure about back up. I-5 is pretty boring from LA to Redding, so I was thinking maybe 99 through Bakersfield/Fresno? Never been that way, but looking for a newer experience to differentiate the other trips.

Any cool places to stop or stay on the way down/up? I love the redwoods a lot, so I’m sure there’s lots of places to stop in there. What about between the Bay Area and San Diego? Definitely looking for neat spots on the way home, because I have nothing.
