California Road Trip: LA-Death Valley-Somewhere-Yosemite-Wine Country-Point Reyes-San Francisco 7days
So obligatory excuse my formatting I’m on mobile. Just a little backstory. My girlfriend and I are planning a cool road trip for the middle of October and I could use some help, This will be our 2nd time road tripping California. Our first was heading south on PCH from SF to LA. We were in a camper van last time and we will be again this time.
If I were to judge our first trip out there I would say it was a bit jumbled at the beginning and the end. The reason I say this is because there were probably some good spots we missed and didn’t experience/explore enough because we were too much in a hurry to get to our next destination. With that being said the middle of our trip was breathtakingly amazing. I don’t want to fall into these same pitfalls again.
My GF and I are both fully vaxxed and have no problem wearing masks in all public places and abiding by state regulations.
Here is our tentative itinerary:
Arrive @LAX 10:00am Tuesday middle October
Pickup camper van in Van Nuys by 12:00pm. Then the following:
-Death Valley
-Something in between ⬆️⬇️
-Yosemite
-Napa or Sonoma on the cheap lol
-Point Reyes
-San Francisco
Fly out of San Francisco Monday 10am. So exactly 7 days. I know there was a post similar to this about 3 weeks ago and our itinerary is only slightly different but any assistance would be of great help.
We have obviously done a lot of the research already so we are very aware of everything going on. We also live in a state that global warming is fucking up.
My biggest questions are:
What would you consider the quintessential quick meal leaving LA to Death Valley?
What to see in one full day in Death Valley?
What are the best detours to explore off HWY 395 on way to Yosemite? I think I have a vague idea but I want to hear it from a definite source. Thanks in advance Reddit!
What is the best way to explore Yosemite without camping reservations? Anyone have any cancellations lol? Best campgrounds around the NP to best maximize our time? I really want to experience Yosemite to its fullest for the time we’re there and would love suggestions
What is the most economical way to buy some exclusive Napa wines without having to spend hundreds of dollars and how can we best enjoy our time there? Are there any great spots to camp there? Are there any must visit places?
What is the best spot to book a hotel in San Francisco close to the airport with a shuttle? We’re probably looking for a spot that isn’t too touristy but fun and relaxing especially after the trip we just took.
