Roadtripping in Romania and Bulgaria - seeking tips on itinerary
hello roadtrippers
I am currently planning a roadtrip with a friend, through Romania and Bulgaria. The time allocated for this trip will be 7 full days of exploration, leaving on the 16th and returning 24th. I will add an idea of itinerary below.
I have basically two questions, that I hope can be answered by anyone that has been in Romania and/or Bulgaria and can help.
We will be arriving in Bucharest and possibly start Journey upwards towards Transylvania and Brasov. maybe one and half day for visiting and some hiking. Then the idea is move south, either south of Romania or south of Bulgaria. In Bulgaria two destinations are being thought Sozopol (for some diving) then moving up to Varna, continuing to go up to Constanta, before going back to Bucharest.
The point here is understanding if such a plan is feasible, considering that we are talking about 1200km and from other sources I have the feeling that in the country side roads are not the best. And while going to Brasov and the idea of crossing the border seems awesome, I wonder if 7 days are enough to really enjoy everything.
The second question being, renting car and easily find accommodation along the way in the country side if need be. Arriving at the airport at around 6AM, renting car at airports is not the cheapest way surely, but is there really any advantage (besides money) to get in the city instead of airport? and what kind of car would you recommend for this situation?
Thank you for your input
