First Time Road Tripping- Dallas to Sedona, any advice and tips

Hey y’all, I’m thinking of road tripping for the first time and I really wanna see the desert. I’m coming from Dallas Texas and planning on driving to Sedona Arizona in the winter.

Any advice for that particular trip, places to go, things to do, lodging, eating, interesting stuff to buy? Or even advice for a first time roadtripper would be greatly appreciated. I am also going alone. I have armed protection and am street smart enough to trust my gut against ill intended strangers. My car is old and has been through a lot.

And also what are some things to bring for a road trip like this. I’ll probably spend at least less than a week.
