Is the Beartooth Highway going to be worth it this summer for my trip?
So I recently found out that there is going to be construction on the Beartooth Highway this summer, which I was planning on taking as a part of my trip. My plan, before I found out about this was:
- Grant Village Campground -> Mammoth Campground (No reservation in Mammoth, I think they recently started allowing them so I don't have one)
- Mammoth Campground to Missouri Headwaters St Park (Via Beartooth, then west on I-90. This according to google maps, which probably isn't going to be accurate, would take me 6 hours).
But after seeing that Mammoth now needed a reservation, I went looking for campsites along the highway, when I found out about the construction. According to an article, it's only a 3/4 mile work area. However, it will be one-way traffic through that area, and even though the article says drivers should only expect a 30 minute delay, I find that hard to believe. So without a definite campsite, and the construction, is it still realistic that I can do this drive? It already was going to be a pain, but I thought it would be worth it. Now I'm not so sure.
