Thoughts on this road-trip itinerary?
I should note that the itinerary/stay length is up in the air and the sub-bullets are just ideas of stuff to look at along the way. I am curious as to what people think of for stay lengths, places to see, and places to miss. Thanks!
- Pasadena → Grand Canyon is 7.25 hours. Seems like North Rim is more scenic. 4 days total in beginning of June.
- Antelope canyon / the wave on the way?
- Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area / Valley of Fire State Park on the way
- Day hikes https://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/day-hiking.htm
- Grand Canyon to → Great Sand Dunes National Park is 7.25 hours. 3 days total in beginning middle of June.
- Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness Study Area and Bisti Badlands
- Vermilion Cliffs National Monument on the way?
- Mesa Verde on the way?
- Sandboarding
- Camping on the dunes and stargazing
- Great Sand Dunes National Park → Yellowstone is 12 hours away. Could always go through Yellowstone and to Glacier. 7 days total in the middle of June.
- Rocky mountain national park on the way? Maroon Bells?
- Grand Teton National Park on the way?
- Wyoming Dinosaur Center on the way?
- Grand prismatic spring, ole faithful, Mammoth Hot Springs
- Lamar valley
- Grand canyon and waterfall
- Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center
- Backpacking/camping (Avalanche Peak or Mt. Sheridan, Heart Lake, and along the Snake River)
- Yellowstone → Yosemite is 17 hours. 13 days total in end of June.
- Stop at Belmont Ghost Town
- Yosemite valley and waterfall. Tunnel View
- Go up half dome
- Nevada Falls via mist trail
- Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne backpacking
- Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias
- Ahwahnee Historic Building (wedding place)
- Yosemite → Pasadena is 5.5 hours. 1 Day end of June
- Could stop at Kings Canyon National Park, Joshua Tree, Sequoia National Park, or Death Valley?
