Planning a family trip around North West area...I need help!
(This is a new account, because I don't want some people to know we are going to be gone, but I do read this sub on my regular account)
We, family of 5 with 3 teens and a long legged dog, are planning on going on a road/ camping trip for about 3 weeks starting in Central Texas and heading North and West. We are going in Late July early Aug, we just have to be back before Aug 23rd.
We haven't been north of Denver, but have been all over the Az, NM, Tx, S. Utah, OK. I don't know where to start planning or how to figure it out. Its the biggest trip I have planned. We went to Georgia from Texas for a little over 2 weeks, we did a general plan and kind of knew where we were going to go but were very loose with camping/ fly fishing plans and it was a great thing! We loved that trip.
I'm not big on crowds or being in the middle of tourist kind of places, I'm still covid aware. Hiking, fly fishing, beautiful places, new adventures. We are an active family. My daughter wants to see big mountains, waterfalls, and maybe do ziplining or white water rafting. She loves adventure and pet birds, but we have a smaller budget. The boys and my husband are all fly fishers. My oldest is 17 and this is going to be his last summer at home. We also like museums or interesting side trips.
My dad has always been an OTR truck driver, so driving long trips quickly is in my blood, and my kids have learned to travel well so the 14 hrs to Denver will be a starting day trip.
So should we camp out in one spot for a week and enjoy the area, or travel light and quick and see Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, the Redwoods.
Help me plan this maybe last big vacation with my whole family.
