Spent my whole childhood on the road, but now we don't know where to start as adults. Tampa to Nashville.

My husband and I both come from circus performer families. We each travelled with our families throughout the US in 5th wheel trailers. We both left the business for "town life" and have been living in the Tampa Bay area for some time. You know that feeling of longing to visit your childhood home, school, etc? That sense of home is spread out all over, and we're past due for a visit.

I'm finishing grad school (PA school!) in May, and we could both use some time away after working really hard and making many sacrifices for the sake of my education. I'm fully vaccinated and my husband will be as well. We'd like to go on a 10 day road trip from FL to GA to TN. I'll be waiting for licensure/certification in the meanwhile anyway. We have a friend in Atlanta and a family friend near Nashville who we can stay with. We'd like to do some camping along the way. Growing up on circuses was a very interesting and unique experience, but we also had bathrooms, kitchens, and all of our stuff with us at all times. For this trip, we plan to take a Honda Civic sedan and camping gear, including our beloved 3-fold foam mattress.

We'd love to visit: mountain streams, waterfalls, good fishing areas, hiking areas, caverns, and perhaps some things we haven't even thought of yet. Perhaps we could loop down to New Orleans on our way back if time permits.

I just don't know where to start. There are so many options of places to visit that it's hard to decide on one. Also, I don't know how much I should plan (ie. Exact route and reservations/tickets on specific days vs. going with the flow). And I'd like to spend as little as possible since I won't have a job for a while, so being able to efficiently price compare (campsites, admission, etc.) is a huge consideration.

I'm looking for ideas for campgrounds with electric, activities, travel apps, podcasts, blogs, general advice - anything that will help me turn this idea into an actual plan.
