CA, AZ, UT, NV 6 week Road trip March/April 2022
Hi guys, I'm in the planning stages of what will be a once in a lifetime road trip with my s/o (who will, by the end of the trip, be my wife).
We've got up to 6 weeks we can use for this trip and will be flying in from the UK to LA. I'm looking for some advice first and foremost on if this itinerary is too ambitious, just about right, or if we should be adding more destinations to fill the time. I'm also happy to take any suggestions of things to see, spots to add or spots to remove.
We'd like to book as little as possible in advance so we can have some flexibility around how long we stay in each spot and where/for how long we make our stops between destinations. We'll have a hire car for our whole trip (with possibly the exception of SF as i've heard there's not much point having a car there).
I understand that the "ideal" trip will vary from person to person and you could spend anywhere from 1 night to a week in any of the national parks, but any insight you guys can give would be much appreciated.
Our extremely tentative itinerary is as follows, and these are only the 'major' spots, stuff we absolutely have to see. We're more than happy to make stops elsewhere between all of these places:
LA - 3/4 nights
San Diego - 1/2 nights
Phoenix ZA - 1/2 nights
Grand Canyon (happy to add in monument valley, Arches, Canyon lands here before we continue)
Bryce
Zion
Las Vegas - 3/4 nights (getting married here)
Sequoia national park
Yosemite national park
SF - 3/4 nights
Then back towards LA down the coastal highway with stop offs on the way.
We both are in our early 30s and are huge lovers of nature, food (anything from cheap street food to fine dining) and enjoy the remote country as much as the inner city. We're not big drinkers so not interested in the party scene, although we're happy to enjoy a relaxed drink to watch the world go by or chat it up with some strangers. We're happy to hit touristy spots but would also love to hit some stop offs in "real america". Neither of us have been to the west coast before (i spent some time in New York, Chicago and Maine around 20 years ago and my s/o hasn't been to the US since she was a small child).
Accommodation will be a mixture of hostels, airbnb, motels and hotels, we're also looking in to doing homestays.
As i mention in the title, this trip will ideally be starting in mid march, so the reason we've planned the loop counter clockwise is because we figure the temperatures in AZ/UT will be a bit lower at the start of our trip - we are English after all. If you guys think the temperature won't be a concern at this time of year, i'm happy to change the direction of our loop.
I realise this is quite vague but as i said, i'm in the early stages of planning and i don't want to get too set on a particular plan and then find out it'll be undoable or a major pain in the ass.
Any advice you can give would be hugely appreciated!
