Buy high resale car and sell upon return or rent a car for 4 months? No car maintenance skills, solo female traveler, hope to sleep in car sometimes, minivans appeal to me...

I’m dying to take a long trip cross country from the DC area to the SW and then up PCH into WA. I’m trying to make that happen this summer.

I’m a solo female traveler with some disabilities that make it tough to do any of my own auto maintenance, so vehicle reliability will be one of my bigger concerns. I can manage solo camping and driving.

Am wondering-if I don’t currently have a suitable car, does it make more sense to rent long term or buy a brand new car under warranty, with a high resale value, and then sell upon my return?

Long term (minivan/SUV) rentals seem really expensive and seem difficult to modify for car camping (what do I do if it breaks down 4,000 miles from home where the removable seats are stashed, and I have to swap rental cars, for example).

I was looking at new Toyota minivans, so I could sleep inside in inclement weather and tent camp on dry nights. I’d just remove the rear seats and store at home, making room for a bed and some storage, kitchen kit, camping gear, etc. Avoid permanent mods so I could sell upon my return home, as it would still be a low mileage nearly new car.

Would love to hear any feedback, ideas or suggestions!
