Planning a road trip from CO Springs to Black Canyon of the Gunnison in late March wondering if anyone here has experience with this trip.
So I’m planning a trip from Colorado Springs to the Black Canyons of the Gunnison in late March. I know it’s about a 4-5 hour drive. I’ve done million dollar highway and that was one beautiful but stressful drive. I’m 24 and that drive was enough to age me another year haha. Will I experience anything like that on my way to Gunnison?
I plan on doing it as a day trip. You know? Leave early morning from CO springs. I’m thinking leaving around 5-6 AM and getting to the park around 9-10 AM and spending a few hours there then heading back. I pray the weather is nice but I do know that there are closure if/when it snows. But some viewpoints are still usually accessible and I know the drive itself would probably be scenic.
My question is what’s the drive like from Colorado Springs to Gunnison? I’ve never done it myself so I have no idea what to expect. Will be going in an SUV with 4x4 capabilities.
