Looking for suggestions, starting point Glendale AZ.
My wife and I have been planning to take a vacation sometime in May or June. We were thinking about flying somewhere, but we will have our 4 year old, and though we will be fully vaccinated, he won't. So we are considering driving somewhere. We live in Glendale, AZ. We plan to take 8-9 days off. The current thought is to drive somewhere over a 1-2 day period (probably 6-8 hours a day), stay for 3-5 days, then 1-2 days driving back. We want to do as much covid friendly stuff as possible, so mainly outdoor activities, but are open to some indoors stuff while taking appropriate precautions.
We've only really ever been to Vegas, Las Angeles, and Newport Beach CA. As far as AZ, we've been to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Flagstaff, and Payson. Going back to any of those places would be fine, but somewhere new would be nice.
Given that info, where would you suggest we go? Also, when you plan a trip, do you drive to a place over a few days then stay and do stuff there, then drive back home? Or do you drive to a new area every day or two? If you drive to New places, how do you plan your sleeping arrangements? Do you pre-reserve rooms? Or do you do it day of or day before? The farthest we've driven is 6 hours in a straight shot to Cali, so we have no real "road trip" experience.
