Hi! I’m planning on going on a road trip from Chicago to Denver with my dog and this will be both her and I’s first road trip and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to help her adjust to the new environment/any advice in general?
So I’m planning on going on a road trip during the third week of March and my dog will be with me for the majority of the trip except one day in which I’ll be hiking in the Rocky Mountains and they don’t allow dogs there so she will be staying at a dog boarding facility for that day. For context she is a toy poodle mix and weighs approximately 10 pounds, so she is a small dog.
I’m going to take her to the vet prior to the trip to make sure she’s healthy and up to date with all her vaccines and to get anti anxiety meds plus nausea meds for her. I’m staying at dog friendly hotels and a dog friendly air bnb and I have a collapsible bowl for water while hiking, a dog sling carrier to be able to have her on my person when she gets tired, she will have a dog car seat so she’s buckled in and safe during car rides, and I’m going to take her favorite blanket, toys, and her bed.
I’m basically just wondering if anyone had advice for me on how to make her more comfortable to the new environment? I want her to enjoy the trip as well! She has separation anxiety so that is why I decided to bring her with me instead of leaving her for over a week at a dog boarding facility. Thank you so much!
