Cape Cod to Utah road trip for new job - route ideas?
Hey all. I've been on Cape Cod since May and have accepted an offer for a new job in northern Utah (Cache Valley).
I've decided to make the drive as opposed to shipping my car and flying out. The quickest, most direct route looks to be mainly a straight shot west on I-80. However, my new job starts on January 4th and I need to be moved into my new place at least a few days prior to that... so would I-80 be potentially too gnarly to drive in the winter for a few days straight?
I've also mapped out potentially going I-80 W for the beginning (through PA), but then dropping down to I-70 (IN/IL) and I-44 (MO/OK) to I-40 (TX/NM/AZ) until I hit Vegas and then just head up on I-15 to my final destination.
- Option 1: basically I-80 the whole way. Total trip about 36 hrs.
- Option 2: a mix of I-80/70/44/40/15, further south. Total trip about 48 hrs.
Winter weather can be crazy unpredictable and obviously while snow/blizzards could impact option 1, I know ice could be a factor in option 2. Is it better to go with a shorter, but potentially harder route, or a longer, potentially easier one? Appreciate any advice that any of y'all have on this
