Seeking advice for GA > CA in the winter!
My boyfriend and I (plus a dog) are driving from Atlanta to LA for the Christmas holiday. We have made this trip twice before with the bulk of the trip on Route 66 and also driven between KS and CA multiple times. However, we have never done it in the winter nor with a 80 lb. dog. Therefore, seeking advice considering these two additional factors. We were looking at the most southern route to avoid any possibility of snow. We are okay to stretch this out over a few days in order to give the dog a lot of breaks and walks in between. This is his first road trip. So far we have planned… ATL > Jackson, MS > Dallas.
We are not sure what to do after Dallas as El Paso is a bit far. We wanted to keep each leg about 7 hours with extra room for any slow-downs and the frequent dog breaks. Should we stop in Odessa after Dallas? What about after that?
We also need to make sure wherever we stop overnight allows dogs. Also, best rest stops for 1-hour walks with the pup??
