US road trip with weed
I’m moving from New Jersey to Colorado and will be starting my drive tomorrow. I use marijuana medically and was originally planning on driving out with some weed in case I have a pain flare up, but I realize that crossing state borders with marijuana is illegal.
Does anyone have any experience driving cross country with weed? I was planning on rolling a joint or two and putting them in airtight containers in my suitcase. I don’t plan on bringing very much, but I’m also concerned about paraphernalia (bong, bowl, etc) in case I’m stopped and there happens to be a dog. Is this all around a bad idea, or can I do this safely? I’ve never had an issue driving with it before (I’m a safe driver and have never been pulled over), but I’ve also lived in the northeast my entire life and cops tend to be really chill about weed.
In case it’s relevant I’m driving through NJ, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas before getting to Colorado.
TLDR: Is it a really stupid idea to bring a few joints on my drive across the US?
