Texas>Montana in Winter: Stupid Questions
Hello all! I am afraid I find myself with several "stupid" questions regarding a potential roadtrip and I thought this would be a good place to start!
Some background: My boyfriend and I are from the southeast coast of Texas. We don't have seasons here (just hot and not so hot) and neither of us has experience driving through true winter weather.
Current situation: my boyfriend will be moving to Montana in late January-early February for work. He is proposing that we take a "fun" roadtrip from southeast Texas to where he will be living in Montana. I am really concerned and quite anxious about potentially having to drive through snow and ice to get to Montana, especially since it is a very long drive and neither of us have experience with driving in ice or snow.
Questions: is it incredibly dumb/unsafe for us to even be considering this trip? I know weather is variable but how likely is the weather to be terrible that time of year? What equipment would we need if we decide to embark on this trip? I have read about snow chains and winter kits..? Any advice is welcome and appreciated :)
