I’m planning a road trip from East Tennessee to Seattle for Christmas. I’ve driven multiple routes for these two endpoints but never in the winter so I need a little help and advice.

I’d like to make this trip roughly four days, at the most using 12-hour days, and would like to avoid being stranded in a ton of snow through the middle of the country.

Does anyone have a good route suggestion? Hopefully avoiding California as that makes for a long route. Also, would you opt for a compact car or SUV as a rental?
