Polarizing topic: Are there any other POC road trippers who have refused to go to certain areas?
Hey all!
This is in line with the current climate in the USA so definitely not worldwide.
I’m an Asian male solo traveler and generally do 6,000-10,000 mile road trips each fall. I’ve had a southern state trip(TX to FL then up the coast) for about 4 years now and I have canceled it for the foreseeable future.
Considering I’ve already faced significant backlash from the current pandemic, and have already faced other attitudes in similar style areas(rural and farm Midwest), I don’t want to go nor would I feel safe.
I generally sleep in my car on trips at truck stops or go camping. Truck stops are generally a touch friendlier simply because some of them have passed me or I’ve passed them on the freeway that day and because of the imaginative ‘road code’, I’m usually treated with at least basic courtesy.
I am not sure if I would even feel safe stopping to fill up gas and use the bathroom now though.
This is as much of a rant as a question.
How do you all feel? Are there any good unexpected stories of places you visited that you thought wouldn’t be accepting to maybe help refuel my desire to visit the south?
