Need to choose - Yellowstone, Glacier, Rocky Mtn, Tennessee
I have time off work to use, and the wife has given permission for me to go on a one week solo road trip. I'll be driving my car and sleeping in a tent, from about Sept. 9-15. Need to decide where to go from Minneapolis, MN. My top destinations with commentary are below. Yellowstone and Glacier are 1A and 1B, with the others quite a bit further down the list.
Yellowstone NP: I was there last year, but so much more to see and I can do longer hikes without my kids this time. Probably the best scenery along the drive to get there - Roosevelt NP and Beartooth Pass going there and Ten Sleep Canyon on the way home. Will be the coldest destination - plan to buy better sleeping bag and foam sleeping mat.
Glacier NP: Never been there. About same distance as Yellowstone. Kind of a boring drive all the way. Looks like amazing hikes and scenery. Will also be cool for camping.
Rocky Mountain NP: Don't know much about it, haven't researched. Somehow it made top-4.
Tennessee: 2 days at Chicamauga/Chattanooga for Civil War history, then 2 nights at Bristol Motor Speedway for NASCAR races. Possibly Mammoth Cave or a famous distillery on the way home. I've driven WI, IL, and IN so many times though, they get boring. But if I get to departure day and the West is under a major cold snap, I could do this trip with little to no advance planning.
