Planning a road trip East Texas to California
So I'm planning a road trip with my friends going as far west as we possibly can. Right now we are in East Texas. I know for sure we want to see some dunes and we are probably going to camp on most of the stops because we don't really have a lot of money between us. We also want to hit the best local food places. So if you live anywhere along a major route or anywhere in the southwest for that matter, if you could comment some pretty scenic camping grounds, cool things to do along the way, or your favorite local restaurants it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm also kinda torn about what to drive. I can use my 89 jeep Cherokee, decent room, 4 wheel drive, bulletproof reliability but bad gas mileage. I could drive my brother's pick up which gets about 15 mpg, lots of room but 2wd. Or my friend's Kona that is kind of cramped, 4wd but gets really good mileage.
