Little help needed planning a road trip..
Hey everyone! I’m new to Reddit and looking forward to the conversations I’ll be having!
In the not to far future (max two years) I’m planning on just going on a 4-6 month United States road trip, starting from Montreal, Canada.
The way I wanted to plan is it to sleep in my car (Kia Soul) for 90% of the voyage and sleep in hostels for the remainder. I have been finding ways to do every day things (such as eat and cook) but my issue remains that I have no idea where to park my car overnight to sleep and carry on for the next day. Even the situation with showering, but that is to be figured out(which is the best part!)
The goal of this trip is to figure things out as we go (me and my girlfriend) while exploring the beautiful United States and being self sufficient while having no worries except having the purest road trip from one coast back to the opposite coast....
I’ve seen people and apps that say that Walmart parking lots are a “go-to” but with supervisor approval. I’m not about that. Planning and calling a bunch of managers goes against our Philosophy for the trip and what we want to do, so is there any other recommendations that anyone would suggest?
Parking in safe neighborhoods? What are the chances of getting caught sleeping on the side of a road....
Also, while crossing the boarder to the US, won’t they ask me where I’m sleeping or staying, would saying “sleeping in a car” allow me entry? Knowing that some jurisdictions made sleeping in cars illegal, is this an area of concern?
Again, thanks for anyone’s contributions and suggestions, looking forward to see what you guys have to say!
