We have a road trip planned along east coast and I wanted to know if I can help on some of the driving

I have a UK provisional license and I’m 27 years old (yup still holding a learners)
In the UK I can drive as long as there is someone in the car with me that over the age of 21 and has held the license for minimum of 3 years

But what I was wondering is what about in US?
Can I drive someone else’s car with my UK Prov license if the owner of the car is also in the vehicle with me ?
The owner of the car is an American citizen holding an 8year US driving license and he has insurance on his car

Would this be dependant on his insurance and whether it covers me ?
Or would my UK provisional license simply not be allowed behind the wheels in US ?
